Compost Stuff
I have been pulling armloads and cart loads of stuff out of the garden these past couple weeks. It is an exercise in patience, as with freezing temperatures perhaps days away, I know composting will have to wait. And so the question is where to put all of this compost stuff until it can be used? I have it easier than many of you- with a large property I can pile it up behind the garden until I am ready for it. In early summer when there isn’t much brown material, I can pull from this pile what I need and add it to my ComposTumbler. I also have some weedy areas of the garden where I have piled up garden waste. The idea behind this, is the garden waste smothers the weeds and slowly composts, adding nutrients to the soil. You can also use garden waste to mulch tender perennials. In the spring pull it off and add it to your Tumbler. My Mother, who lives in the city, stores her brown compostables in large garbage bags in the garage until spring. The key with this method is to store only dry, brown material. Large garbage cans work well too. Whatever you do, don’t get rid of it! Compost!

I like this prattle. I have a 32 page pamphlet published by Rodale titled “Make Compost in 14 Days”. I will send you a copy. YOu might find it interesting.
