About
I am stay at home mother of two, gardener, writer, artist, seamstress, and small business owner. We live in north central Vermont with the Green Mountains to our East and the Appalachians to the West. Despite all that goes on during our days, our garden is the focal point in the warmer months. Our greenhouse provides greens in the spring. The garden provides almost all of our vegetables during the summer and fall. We freeze, can and root cellar more every year. I sell cut flowers and aprons at our local farmer’s market and write about it all when I can squeeze it in. I love my garden. I love the process from seed to table. And artistically my garden is a piece of work that evolves slowly, changing every year. I play a hand in it, but there is so much out of my control. It is very exciting. And where did this all come from?
My mother has always had a garden. She has never shied away from sewing, baking, or growing something, within reason- no button down collared shirts, fancy pastries, or delicate roses. More like bread and pie, dresses and nighties and the good old fashioned flowers, lettuce, radishes and herbs. For her it is a matter of course. I have taken it all to an extreme. And of course there has always been compost. With my Dad buying the ComposTumbler company when I was quite young, the big green tumbler is etched into my being. It appears in the background of most of my childhood memories and now has claimed a spot in my own garden.
One note about my relationship with ComposTumbler. I am my own entity. I do use a CompostTumbler to make compost, but it is not the only way I compost. There are as many ways to make the good stuff as there are to make a pie crust. I am happy to answer questions about using the Tumbler and forward questions or comments to ComposTumbler, because of my close affiliation.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my site and read my prattle. Happy gardening!
Sarah
